Wanpa-rda Matilda Centre

The Wanpa-rda Matilda Centre is situated in the grounds of the Australian Workers Heritage Centre, Barcaldine, central-west Queensland.

 

 

The centre consists of a 56-bed dormitory-style residential facility; an administration/ classroom building; and a fully equipped camping trailer, available for hire.   
 

Dormitory accommodation is available at $14.00 per night per student and $20.00 per night per adult (catering by arrangement if required)
 
 
 

All overnight groups will incur a non-refundable deposit of $200.00*

    Bookings

The centre offers the services of a full-time Education Officer. We can assist with planning itineraries and making any bookings required. A fee of $44.00 (to be revised for 2009) applies to this service to cover administration costs.

  • sleeping bag or bed linen (Please be sure to inform your bus driver that he/she needs to bring bedding as well.)
  • pillow and pillow case
  • water bottle
  • sensible clothes for outdoor activities
  • shoes suitable for outdoor activities

Barcaldine has mobile phone coverage under the CDMA  network only. Digital mobile phones cannot be used at Barcaldine and many other places in the Central West.

Barcaldine is approximately 1100 km from Brisbane and 580 km West of Rockhampton.

Queensland Rail's 'Spirit of the Outback' provides twice weekly services from Brisbane to Barcaldine, stopping at all major towns along the way. Schools and other groups travelling for educational purposes may be eligible for up to 70% discount under the Queensland Rail Edu$aver program

Bus transport can be arranged locally for those groups wishing to travel to Barcaldine by train. Please contact the Education Officer for more information on bus and train transport options.

Visitors are welcome to use the dormitory phone to make local and reverse charge calls. 'PhoneAway' cards can also be used on the dormitory phone. Public pay phones are located a short walk from the centre.

Barcaldine has mobile phone coverage under the CDMA network only.
